Flights spur Bodhgaya pilgrimages

THE number of Myanmar pilgrims visiting India’s Bodhgaya, where the Goattama Buddha gained enlightenment and founded the Buddhist religion, has risen by up to 50 percent on last year’s pilgrimage season, local travel agents said last month.

U Maung Maung Aye, managing director of private pilgrimage tour company Maha Toe, said recently launched direct flights to Gaya had contributed to the increase.
