Thailand: Buddhist centre in forest plan opposed

Precious land going to waste, farmers say

Landless farmers are opposing the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry's plan to allocate 20,000 rai of protected forest to establish the World Buddhism Centre in Nakhon Ratchasima.

The project is the brainchild of minister Suwit Khunkitti who came up with the idea after his plan to evict monks from forest reserves met with opposition from forest-dwelling monks.
