A Trump-appointed federal prosecutor in Miami has launched a probe into a ‘grand conspiracy’ by Democrats led by Barack Obama to destroy Trump’s political ambitions.
Jason Reding Quinones, US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, has subpoenaed at least 30 Obama officials involved with an investigation into Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, The New York Times reported.
The Miami probe follows up on a far right theory that Obama officials used the ‘hoax’ investigation in an in attempt to jail Trump after the 2016 election.
Quinones has now issued more than two dozen subpoenas, some to officials who took part in the Russia inquiry. So far, they include ex-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former FBI agent Peter Strzok and ex-FBI lawyer Lisa Page.
A Chinese diplomat has sparked a diplomatic firestorm in Japan over a statement widely seen as threatening toward Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, following her recent remarks on Taiwan.
The controversy erupted after Takaichi, who was sworn into office last month, told a parliamentary committee on Friday that a Chinese military blockade of Taiwan, which Beijing claims as its own, would likely create a “survival-threatening situation” for Japan—one that could force Tokyo to respond by deploying its Self-Defense Forces.
Xue Jian, the Chinese consul general in Osaka, fired back on social media platform X in a now-deleted post, which read: “That filthy neck that barged in on its own—I’ve got no choice to cut it off without a moment’s hesitation. Are you prepared for that?”

My AI investment thesis is that every AI application startup is likely to be crushed by rapid expansion of the foundational model providers.
App functionality will be added to the foundational models’ offerings, because the big players aren’t slow incumbents (it is wrong to apply the analogy of “fast startup, slow incumbent” here), they are just big. Far more so than with any other prior new technology, there is a massive and fast-moving wave that obsoletes every new app almost as fast as it can be invented. There is almost no time to build a company and scale it.
There are two ways AI application startup founders can make money:
– Make a flash-in-the-pan app that generates a ton of cash and bank the cash (my estimate is that you have about 12-18 months cashflow generation)
– Make a good enough app that you get acquired by one of the big players for sufficient equity
The situation is highly unstable – we don’t know if it’s going to crash or go to the moon but both scenarios make it very unlikely that any AI application startup will independently become a generational supercompany (baseline odds are low to begin with).
The best odds are finding an application niche in a highly specialized field with extremely unique and specific data barriers, ideally ones relating to real atoms (hardware or world-related) data and not software/finance.

Transgender athletes and those athletes with differences of sexual development (DSD) will reportedly be banned from competing in female competitions at the Olympics from early next year.
A report in The Times claims this comes after a science-based review undertaken by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) which looked into the permanent physical advantages of being born male.
Previously, Olympic sports had the power individually to decide whether transgender women could compete if they had reduced testosterone levels.

It turns out that the pipe bomber on Jan 6 was not a man, as had been assumed for more than four years. Reports over the past 48 hours claim that the pipe bomber was a Capitol policewoman by the name of Shauni Rae Kerkhoff. This comes after more than four years of not knowing who the pipe bomber was.
It appears that the FBI and Capitol Police were not interested in identifying the person who planted pipe bombs on the evening of January 5th near the RNC and DNC buildings in DC. Is this because the pipe bomber was one of them, and if it were found out that the Capitol Police were involved with the pipe bombs found on Jan 6, Americans would be outraged with the news?
Perhaps an even bigger reason to cover up the identity of the pipe bomber is that the planting of pipe bombs at the Capitol on the eve of Jan 6 was necessary to ensure the certification of the 2020 election for Joe Biden.
