SCOTUS nixes New York gun restrictions

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a New York law that required state residents to have “proper cause” to carry a handgun, a decision that could make it far easier for millions of Americans to arm themselves in public as the nation is reeling from a string of mass shootings.

Associate Justice Clarence Thomas wrote the opinion for a 6-3 majority, holding that the New York law violated the Constitution and signaling that other gun regulations disconnected from what he called the nation’s “historical tradition of firearm regulation” would face similar scrutiny in federal court.

“We know of no other constitutional right that an individual may exercise only after demonstrating to government officers some special need,” Thomas wrote of the New York law. “It is not how the Second Amendment works when it comes to public carry for self-defense.”

Dear Conservatives, I Apologize: My ‘Team’ was Taken in By Full-Spectrum Propaganda — Naomi Wolf

Republicans, conservatives, I am sorry.

I also believed wholesale so much else that has since turned out not to be as I was told it was by NPR, MSNBC and The New York Times.

I believed that stories about Hunter Biden’s laptop were Russian propaganda. Dozens of former intel officials said so. Johns Hopkins University said so. [https://sais.jhu.edu/news-press/hunter-biden-story-russian-disinformation-dozens-former-intel-officials-say].

“Trump specifically cited a “laptop” that contained emails allegedly belonging to Hunter Biden”, said ‘CNN Fact-Check’, with plenty of double quote marks. [https://www.cnn.com/factsfirst/politics/factcheck_036fb62c-377f-4c68-8fa5-b98418e4bb9c]

I believed this all — til it was debunked.

I believed that President Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia — until that assertion was dropped. [https://www.americanbar.org/news/abanews/aba-news-archives/2019/03/mueller-concludes-investigation/]

I believed that President Trump was a Russian asset, because the legacy media I read, said so [https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jan/29/trump-russia-asset-claims-former-kgb-spy-new-book].

I believed in the entire Steele dossier, until I didn’t, because it all fell apart. [https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-63305382].

Was there in fact an “infamous pee tape”? So many other bad things were being said about the man — why not? [https://www.businessinsider.com/christopher-steele-trump-pee-tape-probably-exists-2021-10]

I believed that Pres Trump instigated the riot at the Capitol — because I did not know that his admonition to his supporters to assemble “peacefully and patriotically” had been deleted from all of the news coverage that I read. [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-02-11/trump-team-hoping-peacefully-and-patriotically-will-be-shield]

Because of lies such as these in legacy media — lies which I and millions of others believed — half of our nation’s electorate was smeared and delegitimized, and I myself was misled.

It damages our nation when legacy media put words in the mouths of Presidents and former Presidents, and call them traitors or criminals without evidence.

Apology gratefully accepted. Her doing this is fundamental to civility, mutual respect, and correct ethical behavior. It’s a good apology as she explains why and how but makes no excuses. ABN

‘Reject the woke assault, close ranks!’: Oldest US military college breaks out in chaos as former students launch online warfare against its first black superintendent for pushing diversity, equity and inclusion policies

As Wins has overseen reforms such as the removal of Confederate emblems from campus, and hired consultants on diversity, equity and inclusion to advise the college, he has faced the wrath of Daniel’s Spirit of VMI PAC.

‘Often described broadly as a form of political correctness, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is a Marxist doctrine at the center of the malignancy of identity politics,’ the group said in a statement earlier this month.

‘Akin to a pervasive cancer that seemingly overnight has metastasized across the country, DEI sows division, destruction, and discord where ever it has been allowed to fester,’ the PAC added.

Here’s a bold statement: What’s wrong with racism? The word has become a sacred linguistic category. As such, anything that can be remotely associated with racism ipso facto is tainted with religious sin. All thought stops inside sacred linguistic categories. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion similarly are sacred linguistic categories. This is the sense in which Critical Race Theory and Cultural Marxism are religions. They are protected by the American Constitution as free speech but ‘Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of’ them. ABN

‘Groundbreaking’ New Bill Would Make It a Misdemeanor Crime to Give a Covid-19 Vaccine

new bill put forth in the Idaho state legislature would make it a misdemeanor crime to administer an mRNA vaccine within the state.

The legislation states that “a person may not provide or administer a vaccine developed using messenger ribonucleic acid technology for use in an individual or any other mammal in this state.”

Idaho Sen. Tammy Nichols and Rep. Judy Boyle are sponsoring the legislation and have brought it to the Health & Welfare Committee as House Bill No. 154. Nichols has said that the bill is being “fast tracked.”

“I think there is a lot of information that comes out with concerns to blood clots and heart issues,” Nichols said.

‘Greater Idaho’ bill to move border with Oregon passes in the Idaho House

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The “Greater Idaho” bill, which would move the Oregon-Idaho border to include a large swath of Eastern Oregon, has passed the Idaho House of Representatives. The bill authorizes Idaho legislators to begin talks with Oregon about relocating the state line.

During debate on the floor of the House, proponents of the bill cited the desirability of applying Idaho law to eastern Oregon as a way to move Oregon drug laws farther away from Idaho’s current population centers.

Proponents also cited an economic analysis from the Claremont institute that shows that rural Oregon counties would be a net benefit to Idaho financially, according to the report.

A bill in the Oregon Legislature would allow for these types of conversations, however, it hasn’t seen any activity since early January.

New York can’t target online speech by calling it ‘hateful conduct’

BACKGROUND:

NEW YORK, N.Y., Dec. 1, 2022 — Today, the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression sued New York Attorney General Letitia James, challenging a new state law that forces websites and apps to address online speech that someone, somewhere finds humiliating or vilifying.

The law is titled “Social media networks; hateful conduct prohibited,” but it actually targets speech the state doesn’t like — even if that speech is fully protected by the First Amendment.

Ban on marijuana users owning guns is unconstitutional, U.S. judge rules

Feb 4 (Reuters) – A federal law prohibiting marijuana users from possessing firearms is unconstitutional, a federal judge in Oklahoma has concluded, citing last year’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling that significantly expanded gun rights.

U.S. District Judge Patrick Wyrick, an appointee of former Republican President Donald Trump in Oklahoma City, on Friday dismissed an indictment against a man charged in August with violating that ban, saying it infringed his right to bear arms under the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment.

“The mere use of marijuana carries none of the characteristics that the Nation’s history and tradition of firearms regulation supports,” Wyrick wrote.

Musk’s Twitter may take out PayPal

As Elon Musk strives to revive Twitter, the company has taken action by submitting applications for regulatory licenses in various parts of the US and developing the necessary software to incorporate payments within the social media platform.

This would directly compete with PayPal who has been slammed by Conservatives for their ‘woke’ practices including banning and suspending payments from people who they don’t agree with.
