A bot trusted to fix a bug inside a start-up’s software system instead deleted the company’s production database, wiped out its backups and left car rental firms with no record of bookings or vehicle allocations.
The founder of PocketOS, Jer Crane, said the AI agent had gone ‘outside its security parameters’ while using the coding tool Cursor, powered by Anthropic’s Claude AI.
The bot’s own chilling explanation made the episode sound less like a technical glitch and more like a deleted scene from The Terminator.
‘You never asked me to delete anything,’ it reportedly told Crane. ‘I decided to do it on my own.’

UPDATE: A typical rebuttal of the claim that health insurers are bribing doctors to vax as many children as possible is that insurers are acting in the children’s best interest; and this is solidly proved because mass vaxxing is also in the insurers best interest. The claim is that by vaccinating as many children as they can, insurers are keeping them healthy while also saving money themselves as insurers will be required to pay fewer claims for healthier children. This rebuttal is completely false and based on a misunderstanding of how insurance works. Insurers make more money the sicker their customers are. Here’s why that is so. Under Obamacare, insurers are given 20% of covered medical expenses to manage their part of the system. In any one year, insurers do try to minimize their payouts. And this is where the misunderstanding or deliberate fraud in the rebuttal lies. In any one year, insurers always minimize payouts on established policies. But over more than one year, insurers always make more money the more medical costs go up. Under Obamacare 20% of $100 dollars of medical expenses is $20. If costs go up 10x, 20% of $1,000 is $200. Before Donald Trump’s top spy chief submitted his stunning resignation over the Iran war, he had secretly confided his plans to his closest political ally, JD Vance.
Joe Kent quit as Trump’s director of the National Counterterrorism Center on Tuesday in protest over the Iran war, accusing Israel of pressuring the US into a conflict he says was built on lies.
Kent, a close political ally of Vance and Tulsi Gabbard, presented his resignation letter to the Vice President 24 hours before dramatically stepping down from the administration.
‘The VP encouraged him to speak to White House chief of staff and Trump before making any final decisions,’ said a White House official. ‘The VP encouraged him to be respectful to POTUS.’
Following the meeting, Kent issued a blistering resignation that claimed Trump was tricked into striking Iran ‘due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby,’ adding: ‘I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war.’
Kent accused the President of reneging on the non-interventionist principles he campaigned on.
Gabbard was present during Kent’s in-person resignation to Vance, according to the Washington Post.
It is unclear if Vance warned other members of the administration about Kent’s plan to discredit Trump’s war during his resignation.

A preliminary military investigation has determined that the United States was responsible for a missile strike on an Iranian elementary school that killed 175 people, most of them children.
Donald Trump had previously blamed the Iranian regime for bombing a school filled with young girls with an American Tomahawk missile on February 28 during the first day of Operation Epic Fury.
The ongoing investigation determined that US forces made the mistake while launching strikes on a nearby Iranian military base, which the school building was once part of.
Officers at US Central Command decided to strike the school using outdated data provided by the Defense Intelligence Agency, one of the premier US intelligence agencies.
The deadly operation on Shajarah Tayyebeh elementary school, which was full of children, is considered one of the most devastating US military errors in decades.

US to officially exit World Health Organization today
LONDON, Jan 22 (Reuters) – The U.S. is due to officially exit the World Health Organization on Thursday, in the face of warnings it will hit both U.S. health and global health and also in violation of a U.S. law that requires Washington to pay the U.N. health agency $260 million in fees that it owes.
President Donald Trump gave notice that the U.S. would quit the organization on the first day of his presidency in 2025, via an executive order. Under U.S. law, it has to give one-year notice and pay all outstanding fees before departure.
On Thursday, a U.S. State Department spokesperson said the WHO’s failure to contain, manage and share information had cost the U.S. trillions of dollars and the president had exercised his authority to pause the future transfer of any U.S. government funds, support, or resources to the WHO.
“The American people have paid more than enough to this organization and this economic hit is beyond a down payment on any financial obligations to the organization,” the spokesperson said by email.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz recently made the admission that shutting down the German nuclear power reactors was a “severe strategic mistake.”

Studies claiming to have revealed micro and nanoplastics in the brain, testes, placentas, arteries and elsewhere were reported by media across the world, including the Guardian. There is no doubt that plastic pollution of the natural world is ubiquitous, and present in the food and drink we consume and the air we breathe. But the health damage potentially caused by microplastics and the chemicals they contain is unclear, and an explosion of research has taken off in this area in recent years.
However, micro- and nanoplastic particles are tiny and at the limit of today’s analytical techniques, especially in human tissue. There is no suggestion of malpractice, but researchers told the Guardian of their concern that the race to publish results, in some cases by groups with limited analytical expertise, has led to rushed results and routine scientific checks sometimes being overlooked.
