Staggering number of federal workers accepting buyouts revealed amid DOGE’s mass purge of bloated bureaucracies
About 75,000 federal workers have abandoned ship and decided to accept President Trump’s deferred buyout after a federal judge lifted a temporary freeze on the offer.
The buyout was just one of many approaches Trump and Elon Musk‘s Department of Government Efficiency have taken to dismantle bloated bureaucracies and slash a civilian workforce of 2.3 million.
Officials have been told that some agencies can see up to 70% of their staff cut.
The deferred buyout program promised employees their salaries and benefits until October if they leave immediately.
A union which represents hundreds of thousands of federal workers sued last week to stop the deal. But a Massachusetts judge ruled the unions lack standing to challenge the directive.
Trump declared victory on the program Wednesday night and closed the offer to anyone who has not yet accepted.
He also warned federal agencies to prepare for wide-ranging job cuts, and several departments have begun to lay off recent hires who lack full job security.
Elon Musk cheered on the government purge Wednesday night and warned critics ‘the matrix is being reprogrammed’ as he seeks to cut $2 trillion in spending.

I just had a lengthy and highly productive phone call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. We discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, Energy, Artificial Intelligence, the power of the Dollar, and various other subjects. We both reflected on the Great History of our Nations, and the fact that we fought so successfully together in World War II, remembering, that Russia lost tens of millions of people, and we, likewise, lost so many! We each talked about the strengths of our respective Nations, and the great benefit that we will someday have in working together. But first, as we both agreed, we want to stop the millions of deaths taking place in the War with Russia/Ukraine. President Putin even used my very strong Campaign motto of, “COMMON SENSE.” We both believe very strongly in it. We agreed to work together, very closely, including visiting each other’s Nations. We have also agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately, and we will begin by calling President Zelenskyy, of Ukraine, to inform him of the conversation, something which I will be doing right now. I have asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of the CIA John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Ambassador and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, to lead the negotiations which, I feel strongly, will be successful. Millions of people have died in a War that would not have happened if I were President, but it did happen, so it must end. No more lives should be lost! Around 100 women were kept as slaves on a human egg farm in Georgia where they were fed hormones and treated like cattle.
Their horrifying ordeal has been revealed by three Thai women who were freed from the clutches of the ‘egg mafia’ on January 30 after being exploited for half a year, tabloid Bild reports.
The woman said they were held captive on a ‘human farm’ in the eastern European country of Georgia by a criminal organisation led by Chinese criminals, who sold their eggs on the black market.
They were lured in by a job offer on Facebook, promising them a salary between 11,500 and 17,000 euros (£9,600 to £14,100) to work as surrogates for Georgian couples who could not have children.
The trio travelled to Georgia in August 2024 alongside ten other Thai women.

Maine Considers Repealing Annual Vehicle Inspection Requirement
The annual tradition of visiting an auto mechanic to get an inspection sticker could come to an end if a group of Republican lawmakers succeed in repealing Maine’s auto inspection requirement.
Under a bill introduced by Rep. Ann Fredericks (R-Sanford), the mandatory safety inspection requirement would be repealed for the majority of cars that are driven by Mainers on a daily basis.
“Other states have already abolished this antiquated requirement that is an inconvenience,” Fredericks said.
From Frederick’s perspective, advancements in safety standards and auto-making technology mean that annual inspections should no longer be necessary for most personal vehicles, as they’ve become more of a nuisance than a guarantor of public safety.
The bill would not alter inspection rules for commercial vehicles, trailers, semitrailers, and fire trucks, according to the official summary of the legislation.
Less than half of states nationwide currently have mandatory safety inspection policies in place.
