He carried Y-DNA haplogroup J1a2b and mtDNA U5a1. His maternal lineage, associated with European hunter-gatherers, was widespread among Indo-Europeans. His paternal lineage, J1a2b, has been previously detected in the Khvalynsk culture; a downstream of this haplogroup also dominates the Y-DNA of the Kura-Araxes culture, possibly suggesting a dispersal of J1a2b from the Caucasus into the Steppe, where a related branch persisted and became the main haplogroup of the Kura-Araxes culture.

The man, belonging to the Paleoeuropoid/Protoeuropoid type, stood roughly 180 cm tall (498mm femur length) and possessed a notably massive and robust skull, with a very long cranial length of 193 mm, massive cranial width of 151 mm, and a very broad cheekbone width of 147 mm.

In Inner Asia, the Bronze Age begins with the emergence of the Afanasievo culture, which spread across vast regions of southern Siberia and Central Asia. Its sites are known from western and central Mongolia, eastern Kazakhstan, the Dzungarian Basin, and even the Middle Zarafshan, though the highest concentration lies in the Altai and the Minusinsk Basin. AMS radiocarbon dates place the Afanasievo horizon between 3300–2500 BCE. Both anthropological and ancient DNA evidence indicate that the Afanasievo culture arose from a migration of populations from Eastern Europe, specifically from the Yamnaya cultural sphere (Solodovnikov et al. 2023).  

The Altai Afanasievo individuals rank among the tallest ancient populations of Eurasia (Solodovnikov et al. 2018). A similarly tall stature is seen among Afanasievo individuals from central Mongolia, based on limited material from the Shatar-Chuluu cemetery (where the reconstructed individual was found) near the Khangai range (Tumen 1978; Solodovnikov, Erdene 2022).  

Two published Afanasievo individuals have been identified as fifth-degree relatives. One was buried at Inskaya Dol in the northwestern Altai (I11752, BARN-039) [Narasimhan et al. 2019], and the other at the Shatar-Chuluu cemetery in central Mongolia (SHT002, AT-25 (I6221, the reconstructed individual)) [Jeong et al. 2020; Ringbauer et al. 2023]. Although these sites lie 1,410 km apart, both individuals share the characteristic Afanasievo/Yamnaya genetic profile and cluster closely with other Afanasievo samples. Their biological relationship implies that at least one ancestor in their family line must have traveled several hundred kilometers within their lifetime.

Can you be aware of nothing? The rare sleep experience scientists are trying to understand

For some people, sleep brings a peculiar kind of wakefulness. Not a dream, but a quiet awareness with no content. This lesser-known state of consciousness may hold clues to one of science’s biggest mysteries: what it means to be conscious.

The state of conscious sleep has been widely described for centuries by different Eastern contemplative traditions. For instance, the Indian philosophical school of the Advaita Vedanta, grounded in the interpretation of the Vedas – one of the oldest texts in Hinduism – understands deep sleep or “sushupti” as a state of “just awareness” in which we merely remain conscious.

Similar interpretations of deep sleep are made by the Dzogchen lineage in Indo-Tibetan Buddhism. According to their teachings, different meditative practices can be followed during wakefulness and sleep to acknowledge the “essence” of consciousness. One of those meditative practices is that of dream yoga or luminosity yoga, which enables the practitioner to recognise the states of dream and sleep. This aims to bring them to a state of “pure awareness”, a state of being awake inside sleep without thoughts, images or even a sense of self.

For western science, this state poses a conundrum. How can you be aware without being aware of something? If these reports are accurate, they challenge mainstream theories that treat consciousness as always about an object. For example, my awareness of the laptop in front of me, or the blue sky rising above my window, or my own breathing. The existence of this state pushes us to reconsider what consciousness is.

In those studies, we found a spectrum of experiences we called “objectless sleep experiences” – conscious states that appear to lack an object of awareness. In all cases, participants who alluded to an objectless sleep experience reported having had an episode during sleep that lacked sensory content and that merely involved a feeling of knowing that they were aware.

This is an interesting article, sent by an alert reader.

From a Buddhist POV, these states are samadhi or dhyana states, which are essential to successful Buddhist practice.

The reason these states are essential is they provide the experience of pure awareness, pure consciousness with zero self and zero referent.

The Mind-Only Buddhist explanation of these states is they are touching on or engaging with the universal Tathagata, or enlightened mind.

In modern philosophical terms, these states are awareness of ‘mind at large’ or some version of ‘quantum consciousness’ or the fundamental ‘field of consciousness or thought’, which is posited as a primary component of the cosmos.

These states are extremely valuable and worth remembering and pursuing.

In higher levels of samadhi, enormous joy or bliss is experienced along with a total absence of self or referent.

The highest samadhi state is perfect equanimity coupled with deep awareness of the Tathagata.

Samadhi states eventually bump up against nirvana.

I love Western civilization, but the one thing it deeply lacks is a tradition of knowing about and using samadhi, which at the very least provides a marvelous and wonderful place to stand aside from all that is mundane.

Philosophically, Buddhism recognizes ‘relative truth or reality’ (mundane reality) and ‘ultimate truth or reality’, the full knowing of which constitutes Buddhist enlightenment.

In many Buddhist traditions, samadhi states are understood to be natural and attainable by anyone who tries diligently.

If you are fortunate enough to experience samadhi without trying, be thankful!

You have gained a deep realization.

One of the most difficult parts of Buddhism for non-Buddhists to understand is the experience of samadhi.

Also fundamental to Buddhism is the experience of a clear conscience, an honest and pure mind which is gained through wholesome moral and ethical thoughts and behaviors. ABN

The White House has paused all immigration applications from 19 countries and canceled citizenship ceremonies across the US, citing national security and public safety concerns.  

The freeze could affect more than 1.5 million people who had asylum applications pending and more than 50,000 who received asylum grants under the Biden administration, The New York Times reports.

President Donald Trump is also considering expanding the travel ban to more than 30 countries, according to the New York Post. 

The new policy memorandum, released Tuesday night, cites last week’s ‘terror attack’ in D.C. where Afghan man Rahmanullah Lakanwal was arrested for allegedly killing one National Guard member and wounding another. 

The ban applies to citizens of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen while the restricted access applied to people from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela. 

It puts a stop to all immigration related activities, including a temporary suspension on the completion of citizenship ceremonies, involving legal permanent residents of the 19 countries, per CBS News. 

‘The Trump administration is making every effort to ensure individuals becoming citizens are the best of the best. Citizenship is a privilege, not a right,’ said US Citizenship and Immigration Services spokesman Matthew Tragesser.

China just declared the San Francisco Peace Treaty “illegal and invalid.”

But here’s the catch: the moment China rejects SFPT, the entire post-WWII map of Asia breaks — and China is the first country to lose territory.

Why?

Because SFPT isn’t just a US–Japan treaty.

It’s the document Japan used to renounce the territories it seized from China.

If SFPT is invalid, then every renunciation inside it is also invalid:

• Manchuria — Japan’s renunciation disappears

• Taiwan (Formosa) — status becomes “undetermined territory” again

• Penghu (Pescadores) — no legal transfer

• Spratlys & Paracels — Japan’s renunciation vanishes

• China loses the legal foundation of its South China Sea claim

• China can no longer argue “post-war order” against Japan

• ROC vs PRC succession problem reopens

• The 1945–1951 borders collapse into pre-war chaos

In other words:

SFPT is the only treaty that formalised Japan giving these territories up.

Reject the treaty, and you reject the surrender.

It’s geopolitical self-sabotage:

A move meant to weaken Japan actually weakens China’s own claims first.

And the irony?

China was excluded from SFPT in 1951 — but without it, China loses:

• its claim logic over Taiwan,

• its claim logic in the South China Sea,

• its ability to use “post-war order” as a diplomatic weapon,

• and even the legal closure over Manchuria.

Declaring SFPT invalid doesn’t rewrite history.

It only rewrites the map — in ways that hurt China more than anyone else.

But by looking for ripples in the fabric of spacetime, known as gravitational waves, researchers think they could have found the ‘smoking gun’ to prove they are real.

On November 12, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational–Wave Observatory (LIGO) and its European counterpart, Virgo, detected an unusual signal from deep space.

The gravitational wave looked like it was coming from colliding black holes, but was much smaller than any known black hole could possibly be.

If it wasn’t a glitch, the only remaining possibility is that the objects producing these faint ripples are the elusive primordial black holes.

Dr Djuna Croon, an astro–particle theorist at Durham University who was not involved in the observation, told Daily Mail: ‘If it’s real, then it’s enormous.’

Kristi Noem has revealed her plans for a ‘full travel ban’ on countries that are sending ‘killers, leeches and entitlement junkies’ to the United States after a meeting with Donald Trump.

The Department of Homeland Security Secretary did not specify which countries she was calling for a ban from in the wake of the attack on two National Guard members in Washington DC last week.

‘I just met with the President. I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies,’ Noem wrote on social media.

‘Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom – not for foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS. WE DON’T WANT THEM. NOT ONE.’

Trump has shared Noem’s post to his own Truth Social page in an apparent endorsement. 

Her plan comes after Trump announced a halt to all immigration from Afghanistan, including decisions on refugee status in the wake of the attack in the nation’s capital on Wednesday.

Trump has also vowed to ‘permanently pause migration’ from all Third World countries and has announced that immigrants who hail from 19 countries covered by his travel ban will have their cases re-examined.

The countries include Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, Haiti, Sudan, Yemen, Libya and Venezuela among others.

Biden treasonously ushered in, at our expense, some 20 million illegals, most of whom are military-aged men, and many of whom are criminals.

When they are deported, fake new will cry about the wives and anchor-babies being left behind when the real story is nothing is stopping them from leaving with their husbands.

The damaging new dossier, obtained by the New York Post’s Miranda Devine, detailed an embarrassing tantrum Patel allegedly threw after the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

Patel reportedly flew into Provo, Utah, on September 11, the day after the killing, and refused to ‘disembark from the plane without an FBI raid jacket.’

He did not have his own and was so concerned about the optics that he pulled Salt Lake City FBI field agents from the investigation and ordered them to find him medium-sized outerwear.

They eventually tracked down one he could wear but it belonged to a female agent.

Patel was reportedly fuming when he received the jacket and erupted when he noticed ‘two areas on the upper sleeves did not have Velcro patches attached’, and still refused to step off the plane.

Everyone has been noticing his incompetence for this very difficult job.

I hope and expect Trump gets rid of him and probably Bondi and Bongino as well.

I am very slightly hesitant about Bondi because there may be a deep side to her poor performance we do not know about.

It may be that Trump is using some of the Epstein files and other materials to twist some arms in Congress and elsewhere in the government.
