Study reveals organized crime is the fifth-largest employer in Mexico

Organized crime is Mexico’s fifth-largest employer, accounting for between 160,000 and 185,000 people and the only way to crack down on the problem is to prevent the recruitment of new members in a country where criminal groups enlist 350-370 people into their ranks every week. These are the conclusions of a study by the Complexity Science Hub Vienna, published Thursday in the journal Science. It is one of the most ambitious approaches to the difficult task of quantifying in numbers the power that criminal groups hold in Mexico.

The lead researcher on the study, former Mexico City police officer Rafael Prieto-Curiel, says the path is clear: “Neither through the courts nor through the prisons. The only way to reduce violence in Mexico is to cut off cartel recruitment.” The researchers combined data on murders, missing persons, incarcerations, and cartel interactions between 2012 and 2022 to reach this conclusion.

One of the most relevant findings from the study is that despite the imprisonment of thousands of members, the size of criminal organizations is larger than it was 10 years ago. Mexican authorities sentence around 6,000 cartel members to prison terms every year. However, Mexico’s cartels had 60,000 more members in 2022 than they did in 2012.

Gangsters, Money and Murder: How Chinese Organized Crime Is Dominating America’s Illegal Marijuana Market

A quadruple murder in Oklahoma shows how the Chinese underworld has come to dominate the booming illicit trade, fortifying its rise as a global powerhouse with alleged ties to China’s authoritarian regime.

It seemed an unlikely spot for a showdown between Chinese gangsters: a marijuana farm on the prairie in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma.

On a Sunday evening in late November 2022, a blue Toyota Corolla sped down a dirt-and-gravel road in the twilight, passing hay meadows and columns of giant wind turbines spinning on the horizon. The Corolla braked and turned, headlights sweeping across prairie grass, and entered the driveway of a 10-acre compound filled with circular huts and row after row of greenhouses. Past a ranch house, the sedan stopped outside a large detached garage.

The driver, Chen Wu, burst out of the car with a 9 mm pistol in his hand. Balding and muscular, he had worked at the farm and invested in the illegal marijuana operation.

Charging into the garage, Wu confronted the five men and one woman working inside. Like him, they were immigrants from China. Piles of marijuana leaves cluttered the brightly lit room, covering a table and stuffed into plastic bins and cardboard boxes.

Wu aimed his gun at He Qiang Chen, a 56-year-old ex-convict known at the farm as “the Boss.” Chen had a temper; he was awaiting trial in the beating and shooting of a man two years earlier at a Chinese community center in Oklahoma City.

Before Chen could make a move, Wu shot him in the right knee. The boss fell to the floor, writhing in pain.

Wu held the others at gunpoint. He said Chen owed him $300,000 and told his hostages they had half an hour to get him the money.

If they didn’t, he said, he would kill them all.

Both the shooter and his victim were from Fujian, a coastal province known for mafias, immigration and corruption. They had come to America and joined a wave of new players rushing into the nation’s billion-dollar marijuana boom: Chinese mobsters who roam from state to state, harvesting drugs and cash and overwhelming law enforcement with their resources and elusiveness.

…Chinese organized crime “has taken over marijuana in Oklahoma and the United States,” said Donnie Anderson, the director of the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, in an interview.

UPDATE: This is a good article in and of itself and also because it shows how easily a well-organized criminal enterprise supported by a powerful nation-state can evade American law enforcement and operate without being detected inside USA. Sad to say, USA is riddled with criminal gangs of this type, some going back centuries, engaged in many other enterprises besides drugs and human trafficking. It pains me that so few realize that our nation has already been entirely infiltrated by gangs backed by nation-states who have penetrated and now control the highest levels of power in America. We can see this phenomenon at the state level in Arizona, New Mexico and Southern California and at the national level in Washington, DC where politicians eagerly do the bidding of foreign governments and even kowtow to their leaders when they visit Congress. Illinois judge is yanked from the bench after reversing a man’s rape conviction for the brutal assault of a 16-year-old girl during a graduation party

  • Illinois Judge Robert Adrian was removed from the bench for overturning his own conviction of a teen sex offender
  • He found then-18-year-old Drew Clinton guilty of sexual assaulting 16-year-old Cameron Vaughan during a May 2021 graduation party
  • However, at sentencing, he overturned the conviction saying the boy had served ‘plenty’ of time behind bars

Based on facts presented in this article, I tend to agree with the judge. ABN

How the U.S. Treasury Department Helps Chinese Organized Crime Transform American Homes Into Drug Dens

From Oklahoma to Maine, a little known program operated by the U.S. Department of Treasury has been leveraged by foreign criminal organizations to acquire properties throughout rural America and transform them into drug manufacturing and trafficking hubs.

The so-called Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) program, originally created by Congress in 1994, may have started as a way to help low-income immigrants access financing to purchase homes.

However, since 2019, thanks in part to COVID-19 Era funding enhancements, the program has become a way for foreign criminal organizations to obtain taxpayer-funded benefits as they scoop up American land and American houses for elaborate international drug operations.

Atlanta DA Fani Willis Just Stepped on a Rake Accusing Lover’s Wife of Conspiracy – The Wife Responds with Receipts of Fani Willis’s Adultery and Ethical Violations

Boy howdy… when things get interesting, they REALLY get interesting.

In an effort to deflect attention from the gross corruption she initiated in the prosecution of Donald Trump, Atlanta District Attorney Fani Willis stepped into the middle of a contentious divorce between Willis’s married lover and appointed Special Prosecutor, Nathan Wade, and his wife, Joycelyn Wade.

After discovering details of the relationship between Nathan Wade and Fani Willis, lawyers representing Mrs. Joycelyn Wade wanted a deposition of Fani Willis.  At issue are the finances in the marriage and Mrs. Wade’s discovery that her husband, Nathan Wade, and Fani Willis had been living a life of indulgence from the marital income received (more than $650, 000) as a result of DA Willis hiring Nathan Wade to prosecute Donald Trump.

In an over-the-top court filing trying to avoid the deposition, the Fulton County’s district attorney accused the estranged wife of conspiring to undermine the Trump prosecution by seeking her testimony.  Fani Willis does not deny the affair; instead, she accuses Joycelyn Wade of coordinating with Trump people and co-defendants to interfere with the prosecution.
