It has been 35 years since one of the most famous deceptions in history, a deception the Americans invented to justify the first invasion of Iraq.
“Kuwaiti girl” Naira tearfully testified before the US Congress in October 1990, where she claimed to have witnessed horrific scenes in one of Kuwait’s hospitals
“Iraqi soldiers stormed the hospital, threw newborn babies out of incubators, and left them to die on the cold floor!”
The story pushed the country to war. US senators passed a resolution to invade Iraq by a margin of five votes. Seven of them believed the girl’s words.
Two months before the testimony, 17% of Americans supported US involvement in the conflict. Two months later, nearly half of Americans believed military intervention was necessary.
After the war ended, it was revealed that Naira was the daughter of the Kuwaiti ambassador to the US, and her story was fabricated by the PR agency Hill & Knowlton, hired by the Kuwaiti government. During the first Iraq war over 135,000 Iraqis were killed.

Alleged Chinese mole Linda Sun brazenly forged then-Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul’s signature in glowing missives sent to dignitaries from the Henan province, according to the feds and documents presented at her bombshell trial.
Jurors in Brooklyn federal court were shown copies of letters purportedly sent by Hochul on March 26, 2018, inviting a six-member delegation from the province in central China to a meeting with then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
But the letters bore clearly forged versions of Hochul’s signature — that featured “overly loopy” handwriting, her former chief of staff Jeff Lewis testified.
Prosecutors say that Sun, who served as Cuomo’s director of Asian-American affairs, forged the governor’s then-No. 2 Hochul’s signature several times that year in an attempt to curry favor with Chinese officials.
Over the same time span, Sun’s alleged handlers in Beijing showered her family with gaudy gifts and steered millions of dollars in contracts to her husband Chris Hu’s seafood exporting business, the feds claim.

Revolutions are funny things. They start out almost imperceptible. The final straw itself may be as inconsequential as a single voice in the crowd whose words unleash a tidal wave that sweeps aside the seemingly intractable old order forever.
Even as the cracks in the Eastern Bloc began to materialize in 1989, starting in June in Hungary, Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu’s Romania seemed impervious to the winds of change. They maintained a cult-like grip on power aided by the notorious and ubiquitous Securitate, the secret police.
On 21 December 1989 Ceausescu decided that the best way to quell a bubbling cauldron of unrest in Transylvania over the past several weeks was to appear, himself, with his wife Elena, above Bucharest’s Palace Square. Workers were bussed in and given red banners to wave in support of the regime. It was to be a show of force that would solidify the existing order.
After all, no one would dare challenge Ceausescu to his face.
As he confidently approached the microphone from the balcony and began mechanically repeating the tired old slogans of communism, suddenly a voice broke through with a high pitched scream, followed by an increasing din. The discordant sounds of protest rendered Ceausescu speechless and confused.
That second, when the false edifice of his rule was punctured and the impossibility of his position exposed, communist rule died in Romania.
Something like America’s ‘Ceausescu Moment’ is definitely happening.
I am not so sure the query pictured above is that ‘moment’. But at some point recently, the tide has turned, deeply and cannot be called back.

But many tens of millions stand with them and behind them. The lies cannot continue and many of us know this.
