Furious Republicans stormed out of a classified briefing on Iran on Wednesday amid fears the US is preparing to invade the country as Tehran refuses Donald Trump‘s peace overtures.
With almost 7,000 US ground forces deploying or en route to the Middle East – including from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division and the Marines – speculation is swirling about Trump’s rapidly developing plans for the war.
Now, a Daily Mail source inside the room has revealed stark new details, including a new set of objectives which may suggest that America is moving toward boots on the ground as Iran continues to strangle the Strait of Hormuz.
The lawmaker, speaking on condition of anonymity, said members were presented with three military objectives: Kharg Island, Iran’s crucial oil export hub; its nuclear material; and regime change.
It marks a stark shift from the four goals the White House has publicly stated: destroying Iran’s missiles, navy, armed proxies, and nuclear capabilities.
The lawmaker said that the White House must answer for its plans, particularly regarding Kharg Island and troops on the ground.
Britain’s national security adviser, Jonathan Powell, attended the final talks between the US and Iran and judged that the offer made by Tehran on its nuclear programme was significant enough to prevent a rush to war, the Guardian can reveal.
Powell thought progress had been made in Geneva in late February and that the deal proposed by Iran was “surprising”, according to sources.
Powell’s attendance at the Geneva talks, as well as at a previous set of meetings earlier in the month in the Swiss city, helps in part to explain the UK government’s reluctance to back the US attack on Iran, a reluctance that has put the UK-US relationship under unprecedented strain.
The UK saw no compelling evidence of an imminent threat of an Iranian missile attack on Europe, or of Iran securing a nuclear weapon. This is the first time it has become clear that Britain was so closely involved in the talks, and so had good reason to decide whether diplomatic options had been exhausted and a US attack was necessary.
Instead the UK regarded the attack as unlawful and premature since Powell believed the path remained open to a negotiated solution to the long-running issue of how Iran could reassure the US that it was not seeking a nuclear weapon.

Disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein hid hard drives and photos from authorities in multiple storage lockers across the country, a report said.
The pedophile rented at least six units, the majority of which were in Florida, paying thousands between 2003 and 2019, according to an investigation by The Telegraph.
The lockers remained uncovered by US authorities, suggesting they held never-before-seen evidence in Epstein’s long string of horrific crimes.
The outlet obtained files and credit card statements detailing Epstein’s various secret hiding places for computers, CDs, pictures and files.
His lockers could point to answers after authorities long suspected that Epstein received insider information about raids of his properties.

WASHINGTON, Feb 18 (Reuters) – The U.S. State Department is developing an online portal that will enable people in Europe and elsewhere to see content banned by their governments including alleged hate speech and terrorist propaganda, a move Washington views as a way to counter censorship, three sources familiar with the plan said.
The site will be hosted at “freedom.gov,” the sources said. One source said officials had discussed including a virtual private network function to make a user’s traffic appear to originate in the U.S. and added that user activity on the site will not be tracked.
Right now, the live Medicaid intelligence map covers all 50 states and includes 208 discovered billing codes, with 11 high-priority codes currently enabled for focused monitoring.
The national map view currently includes 4,167 unique provider lead points and 350 hotspot tracts, with deeper investigative views tracking 3,530 high-risk entities, 1,797 T1019-focused leads, and 2,874 critical address clusters.
Each lead is ranked with a confidence score and priority tier so teams can triage faster and focus on the highest-impact signals first.
The scoring is based on a multi-signal model that looks at payment scale, utilization intensity, concentration patterns, network/address overlap, and trend behavior over time, with uncertainty baked in so results are interpreted as investigative guidance, not automatic conclusions.

This is not implausible. Epstein himself appears to have been switched out for a dead body-double, possibly a murdered-to-order one. Having a lookalike serve your prison term in China is a common practice among the wealthy.
