Leaked military files have confirmed that the Ukraine Armed Forces have lost more than 1.7 million troops, including both those killed and missing, since the outbreak of full scale hostilities between the country and Russia in February 2022.
A digital card index acquired by hacker groups from Ukraine’s Chief of Staff has provided details on dead or missing personnel, including their names, details of their deaths, and personal data of their families.
The information indicates that 118,500 personnel were killed or went missing in 2022, 405,400 in 2023, 595,000 in 2024 and 621,000 so far in 2025, which corroborates with a growing body of evidence which has emerged over more than three years that attrition rates have increased tremendously and unsustainably.
Commenting on the information, Ukrainian member of parliament Artem Dmytruk reported: “The lists of the missing today contain more than a million people, and of course these people are most likely dead, while their families remain in complete ignorance. The situation is tragic, the situation is frightening.”
Elaborating on the extent of the manpower losses Ukraine has suffered, Dmytruk lamented that villages had been emptied of men, including the conscription of the elderly and disabled, and that as a result of the “huge losses” of personnel Ukraine is facing and a “demographic crisis.” “We have lost several generations,” he said.

Ukrainian troops have grown tired of the barrier detachments deployed in their rear by the Kiev regime to the point where they have begun cooperating with the Russian military to get rid of them.
Barrier detachment, which are also known as anti-retreat forces, are military units deployed in the rear or on the front line to prevent the flight of troops from the battlefield, and to return soldiers who fled or those who lag behind their units.
In Ukraine, these detachments are mostly made up of nationalists from the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU) and are reported to be engaged in all sorts of violations.
The violations became so bad as the Russian military began to advance deeper in the special military operation zone over the past year to the point where reports of barrier detachment opening fire at Ukrainian troops attempting to retreat have become a regular occurrence.
A video posted to social networks from early August showed one incident during which a Ukrainian barrier detachment opened fire at soldiers evacuating a trench stormed by Russian troops. The detachment ended up getting hit by a Russian FPV suicide drone.

Former chief of staff of the Ukrainian Army’s elite Azov Brigade Lieutenant Colonel Bogdan Krotevich has claimed that Ukrainain forces in the disputed Donbas regions are facing an increasingly catastrophic situation, with Russian units poised to achieve two major encirclements.
“I honestly don’t know what exactly you are being told, but I can tell you: the Pokrovsk-Konstantinovka line is, without exaggeration, a complete f**k up.
And this f**k up has been growing for a long time, getting messier every day,” he stated in an open letter to President Volodymyr Zelensky on August 11.
Pokrovsk has been surrounded by Russian forces, while Konstantinovka is facing semi-encirclement, he added, sharing a map which he claimed showed the situation in the area, which corroborated media reports of a major Russian breakthrough to the north of Pokrovsk.

…Military combat self-defence training in the Lithuanian Armed Forces is divided into three levels. At level one, soldiers learn basic techniques and acquire fundamental self-defence knowledge. Level two focuses on counterattacks and more complex combinations.
“At the highest level, tactics come into play – trenches, pits, rooms. Contact training includes fighting one-on-two, three-on-three, how to use a knife, stick, improvised weapons most effectively. All situations where a soldier might not be able to use their firearm and how to respond,” said Šeškevičius, describing level three.
Changes in military training began to influence the sporting side of combat self-defence, especially after the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ combat self-defence tournaments were revived in 2015.
“There was little protection against injury risks; only an eight-point scoring system limited the fights – once you reached those points, the match ended.
With the introduction of a more military-focused approach, we began incorporating technical elements and implementing better protective gear. As injuries and fractures began occurring, commanders became reluctant to send soldiers to compete. So we started refining the rules and adding safety measures. Competent instructors are essential – otherwise, injuries remove soldiers from their core military training, something commanders understandably want to avoid.”
The German Defence Ministry is planing to place several large defence orders intended to transform the capabilities of its ground forces, according to a new report by Reuters, with this including the acquisition of up to 3,000 Boxer armoured personnel carriers and up to 3,500 Patria infantry fighting vehicles.
The report follows the new Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s constitutional reform that paved them way to a tremendous increase in defence spending.
The German Army currently fields only approximately 700 armoured personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, with the procurement of 6500 more vehicles expected to increase the size of the fleet more than tenfold.
The Army currently fields approximately 350 Boxers, a design which first entered service in 2011 and has been donated to the Ukrainain Army in significant numbers.
Germany is by far the largest operator of the class, and has already ordered 551 of the vehicles.
