Federal prosecutors have charged five accused Chinese spies with plotting against anti-Beijing dissidents living in the U.S.
The five men – Fan ‘Frank’ Liu, Matthew Ziburis, Quiang ‘Jason’ Sun, Shujun Wang and Qiming Lin – participated in various schemes
Many schemes involved obtaining personal information about dissidents, including a Tiananmen protester turned New Yorker running for Congress
In another scheme, the suspects plotted to destroy a sculpture that depicted Chinese President Xi Jinping as a COVID-19 molecule
Three of the five suspects have been taken into custody
Lin and Sun remain at large
