If an employer isn’t legally permitted to use the most reliable measure of mental ability that exists (IQ tests) when hiring employees for cognitively-demanding positions, it will be limited to less reliable proxy indicators of intelligence like the quality of colleges attended and GPA. This encourages credentialism and boosts the value of a college degree, thereby increasing the demand for undergraduate and graduate-level education, which gives colleges an opportunity to raise tuition costs faster than the overall inflation rate. The extra dollars brought in with increased tuition get increasingly pushed into peripheral administrative activities (like DEI) unrelated to the essential function of a university, and into boutique and heavily-ideological areas of studies.
