USA Sends Doomsday Plane E-6B Mercury to Middle East; equipped with a system for transmitting launch codes for intercontinental ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads
The USA has deployed the E-6B Mercury airborne command post to the Middle East, often called the ‘Doomsday plane.’
The aircraft serves as a command center and facilitates communication with strategic nuclear submarines.
It is equipped with a system for transmitting launch codes for intercontinental ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads.
Additionally, due to its specialized communication systems, the E-6B Mercury can maintain command over nuclear forces even if the ground-based command infrastructure is destroyed.
