Chinese chess scandal: 3 grandmasters banned for life, 41 penalised as controversy rocks China

China has been rocked by a major Chinese chess (Xiangqi) cheating scandal with investigations uncovering cases of match-fixing, bribery, and unethical conduct involving players and coaches. Three grandmasters have been handed lifetime bans, while 38 others face penalties ranging from suspensions to official reprimands. The controversy has raised serious concerns about the integrity of the sport.

A major cheating controversy has broken out in China related to the Chinese chess (Xiangqi) after the Chinese Xiangqi Association (CXA) penalised 41 players including three players receiving lifetime bans, Global Times reported. The three players who have been banned from competition for life include grandmasters Zhao Xinxin, Wang Yang, and Zheng Weitong. The trio have also been stripped of their technical titles.
