Earth could suffer the worst solar storm in 165 years as six streams of plasma that erupted from the sun this week are set to make crash into our atmosphere tonight.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) revealed today that the worst-case scenario would be what happened during the 1859 Carrington event, which set telegraph stations on fire, cutting communications worldwide.
In our modern-day society, a geomagnetic storm of that magnitude could cause widespread electrical disruptions, blackouts and damage to critical infrastructure.
The event could also trigger magnificent nighttime auroras, or the northern lights, which will be visible in the US starting around 11pm ET and lasting through Saturday.
Scientists will know how severe the storm will be at around around 8 pm ET when the explosions of plasma racing through space will be nearly one million miles from our planet – and NOAA plans to issue alerts immediately.
Scientists continue to search for extraterrestrial civilizations, although they have not yet been successful. The authors of a new study published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Academy of Sciences believe that technosignatures of potential aliens in the form of Dyson spheres may have already been discovered.
A Dyson sphere is a hypothetical structure that could only be built by a highly advanced civilization. Such structures must be created around stars in order to harness all their energy.
According to the well-known Kardashev scale, only a Type II civilization could create something like this. As Focus has already written , scientists believe that humanity has not even reached the level of Type I civilization.
The search for extraterrestrial intelligence is currently being pursued using multiple techniques and in different wavelength bands. Dyson spheres, megastructures that could be constructed by advanced civilizations to harness the radiation energy of their host stars, represent a potential technosignature, that in principle may be hiding in public data already collected as part of large astronomical surveys. In this study, we present a comprehensive search for partial Dyson spheres by analyzing optical and infrared observations from Gaia, 2MASS, and WISE. We develop a pipeline that employs multiple filters to identify potential candidates and reject interlopers in a sample of five million objects, which incorporates a convolutional neural network to help identify confusion in WISE data. Finally, the pipeline identifies 7 candidates deserving of further analysis. All of these objects are M-dwarfs, for which astrophysical phenomena cannot easily account for the observed infrared excess emission.
The United States District Court for the District of Maine has dismissed a Maine mother’s lawsuit against the Great Salt Bay Community School (GSBCS) Board for withholding information about her child’s gender transition.
District Court Judge Jon D. Levy released his decision this past Friday that the mother — Amber Lavigne — failed to state a claim because the facts provided in this case were insufficient to establish municipal liability.
Since the judge’s reasoning was based solely on Lavigne’s inability to show that the municipality could legally be found responsible for the alleged violations, he did not address the underlying constitutional questions associated with Lavigne’s claims.

The FDA is gearing up for a bird flu pandemic in people that could kill one in four of those it infects, the agency’s top official has revealed.
Dr Robert Califf told a Senate Committee that officials were drawing up plans to roll out tests, antiviral drugs and vaccines in the event the virus jumps to humans.
But he emphasized the risk of it spreading to people was still low, with only one person infected so far – a farm worker in Texas in March.
‘This virus, like all viruses, is mutating,’ he told the policymakers. ‘We need to continue to prepare for the possibility that it might jump to humans.’
‘[The] real worry is that it will jump to the human lungs where, when that has happened in other parts of the world… the mortality rate has been 25 percent.’

The question is: What company in its right mind would sell its model to begin with?
AI Can Do Anything Better Than You
The US and China have been battling over computer chips since the Trump administration, and the fervor has increased with the advent of generative AI. The US has piled export bans on state-of-the-art chips essential to provide the computing power to run generative AI software. Keegan McBride, an adjunct senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security and a lecturer at the Oxford Internet Institute, said the US has fought to preserve its AI lead over China because it’s a rare area of technology where it’s had a head start. “The US has gotten trashed in other sorts of technological competitions with China, particularly if you think about things like 5G, and quantum [computing],” McBride said. “AI is a specific technology that is important, where [the US has] advantages pretty much across the board,” he added.
I’ve said it before, but I’ll repeat it: the concept of the energy transition is essentially a Western conceit. The U.S. and Western European countries are spending hundreds of billions of dollars on programs like the Inflation Reduction Act and the Energiewende to fund buildouts of solar, wind, batteries, and tutti-fruity-colored hydrogen, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the world will do the same. There is no evidence that China and India are going through an energy transition. Instead, the numbers show those two countries are building staggering amounts of new coal-fired capacity. The German Army is expected to join an exercise with Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force as early as next year, according to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, against a backdrop of China’s military buildup in the Indo-Pacific region and territorial claims in the South China Sea.
In a recent written interview with Kyodo News, Pistorius revealed that the upcoming joint exercise, set to take place in Japan, will be the first of its kind between the two countries’ ground forces. The development comes as Germany has bolstered ties with Indo-Pacific partners and emphasized its mission to “maintain the rules-based international order.”
Pistorius pointed out that no signs indicate that China will abandon its territorial claims in the South China Sea, as Beijing continues to deploy coast guards, maritime militia as well as sea and air forces in the waters concerned to enforce its claims.

Russia has China, a dubious partner and vice versa. USA has Germany and Japan, both reliable partners, incapable of serious backstabbing. Notice the timeline—five to eight years—before the Western cabal attacks Russia or provokes war with China. No way to be sure of details, but these bits of information do reveal real alliances and against whom. Russia would gain nothing and lose everything if it attacked Europe. This is too obvious for words. Russia can only hope to stave off its annihilation. The question arises: does USA possess a superweapon? We know DARPA is many decades ahead of publicly known weapons development. My thoughtful guess is USA does possess a superweapon. ChatGPT-4 exceeded 100% of all the psychologists, and Bing outperformed 50% of PhD holders and 90% of bachelor’s holders. Top leaders in USA have nothing else in mind long-term but world domination. Russian and Chinese leaders both know this full-well and have no choice but to respond accordingly.
While China surely has long-term strategies for world domination itself, it is not today strong enough to pursue them boldly and thus must stay off center stage. Russia, rightly, sees an escalation of Western threats against it and has acted accordingly by threatening to use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine if certain lines are crossed.
These events cannot be understood without understanding that all three parties—Russia, China, and USA—are playing by KOBK rules, the only rules possible for them.All three are ruled by tight gangs led by strong leaders.
The gang or comitatus in control of USA is almost entirely secret and thus, a true cryptocracy. We do not know who is in control or where the center even is. When it comes to KOBK conflicts, none of what top leaders do has anything to do with their citizens’ well-being, except to avoid riling them too much.
It is important to understand what KOBK means and why it is a useful term: KOBK describes the forced ‘morality’ of top international combatants who today rule USA & the West, Russia, and China. World history at many stages and places has operated on KOBK rules. KOBK is nothing new but is distinct from all other political philosophizing, let alone moralizing. Kill-Or-Be-Killed situations are stark and morally unambiguous.
Top leaders cannot but fight by KOBK rules and nothing in the world today will change that. New technology or a much smarter global population through digital breeding may change everything but that is not going to happen in the immediate future. Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, Taiwan and more are all KOBK flashpoints. Conflicts entailing them must be understood as strategic moves toward global domination or to prevent rivals gaining it. ABN
