While Mainers suffer and schools fail, Mills has opted to reward her media allies with a taxpayer-funded ad campaign
The Mills Administration has taken the unusual step of channeling $117,300 in taxpayer dollars to the Maine Trust for Local News, the operator of Maine’s most sympathetic far-left content publishers.
These payments were not delivered in an envelope stuffed with cash at a smoky bar but via a no-bid contract, as disclosed on the state’s website. The details were discovered and reported exclusively by the Maine Wire’s Edward Tomic. In exchange for doling out taxpayer money, the Mills Administration receives what can only be described as paid applause for its education policies, a self-congratulatory attempt to convince readers that Maine’s low-ranking schools are actually thriving.
For those unfamiliar with their work (likely most Mainers), the Maine Trust for Local News (METLN) is a subsidiary of the National Trust for Local News. This nonprofit owns PressHerald.com, SunJournal.com, CentralMaine.com, and a handful of other outlets. Although the METLN initially promised transparency regarding the deep pockets who financed the purchase of the papers, they have not honored that promise. Mainers are left to wonder who now funds the majority of Maine’s newspapers — and why CEO & Publisher Lisa Desoto thinks that’s a secret worth keeping.
Lest there be any doubt, the financiers were George Soros, Hansjorg Wyss, and a handful of other left-wing mega donors. Meaning the Mills Administration has given taxpayer dollars to a nationwide leftist crusade to take over local news via the National Trust for Local News. The payoff no-bid contract amounts to a subsidy for the websites that have been most favorable to Mills during her gubernatorial tenure (excluding Maine Public, which we already knew was a sycophantic outlet for government propaganda).
The reality is that Trump (as he usually is) was right – crime is not down – it is up, way up.
Kamala Harris and her willing accomplices in the mainstream media would have you believe that violent crime in America is at a 50-year low, a narrative eagerly parroted by so-called fact-checkers at Politifact and now ABC News. The reality, however, is far from what they claim. The only thing at a 50-year low is the integrity of violent crime data. Less than a year after taking office, Biden-Harris’s administration had the FBI dismantle the long-standing crime reporting system, replacing it in 2021 with a new, ‘woke’ system that is optional for state and local law enforcement agencies to use. As a result, at least 6,000 law enforcement agencies aren’t providing data, meaning that 25% of the country’s crime data is not captured by the FBI. This deliberate underreporting skews the statistics, painting a falsely optimistic picture of public safety while real Americans continue to suffer from rising crime rates.
Democrat-controlled cities from New York to San Francisco have effectively decriminalized violent crime. For instance, in New York City, 52% of violent felony cases are downgraded to misdemeanors, and offenders are typically offered diversion agreements that keep these offenses out of crime statistics. This manipulation alone could account for a 50% or more drop in reported violent crimes in the Big Apple. Across the country, Soros-backed prosecutors are refusing to prosecute violent criminals or downgrading their charges in record numbers. This systematic underreporting and leniency are tactics used by Democrats to create a misleading narrative about public safety, while communities continue to suffer from unchecked crime. It’s not far-fetched to imagine that the Biden-Harris regime and the Democrats replaced the FBI’s universal crime data system with a new optional system to fabricate this massive decrease in ‘reported’ crime. The move raises serious questions about their motives and the integrity of the data.
Of course, the Democrats will argue that the new system is more inclusive, allowing law enforcement agencies to record pronouns and gender identities, including transgender and nonbinary, as well as the sexual preferences of both criminals and victims. The timing and optional nature of the new system suggest an ulterior motive: to obscure the real rise in crime and present a false narrative of improvement under Democratic leadership.
Additionally, we know that the 70 Soros-backed prosecutors, representing 72 million Americans and half of the nation’s 50 most populous cities and counties, have made it their mission to implement so-called restorative justice. This approach often means refusing to prosecute violent criminals based on factors such as race and gender identity. The few criminals they do prosecute almost always have their violent felonies downgraded to misdemeanors. Both of these realities—the new optional reporting system and the restorative justice efforts—have led to violent crime data that fails to reflect the true state of our communities since 2021. These manipulations distort public perception and allow Democrats to promote a false sense of security.
National polls reveal that most Americans believe crime has increased significantly over the past four years. The situation is even more dire in large Democrat-controlled cities, where almost all residents report a massive surge in crime. Most residents even report that they or someone in their family has been a victim of crime.
Her thoughtless spiel proves the value of free speech. She was dead wrong. Millions knew she was wrong and tried to warn but were censored out of fear, greed and darker motivations. It’s one thing to say something stupid and wrong, people will figure it out eventually. It’s another thing—a much worse thing—to censor millions of people who were right. We figured that out too but it took a much long time than if we had not been censored. Censorship is mind-control done by people with dimmer minds than many of those they are censoring. A dim mind is prone to self-righteous control over others. It is fundamentally a parasitic mind-set. Culturally, free speech is the only thing that stops people of that ilk. In the first few minutes they both admit they have been late to wake up and also take responsibility for that. I like that, but it also means they’re still babes in the woods if not double-agents seasoning the opposition. Both still have prominent voices and may be sincere but I bet both also have known breaking points, which can and will be manipulated. UPDATE: At approximately 1:40, Oliver wonders if the people in control of the West have the ‘backbone to do the wet-work’. What he does not appear to realize is there has been an enormous amount of wet-work done clandestinely throughout the West since the end of WW2. It has been that wet-work that culled the Western herd of strong boys and young men and brought us to where we are today. Note that both Oliver and Carlson confess having been true-believers in their governments and institutions until covid made it obvious to them that those entities were not what they had assumed. That’s a start guys, but since anyone can see the enormous violence engaged in openly by the Western cabal, why would you two not see the violence that has happened secretly in your own countries for your entire lives? Wikipedia’s editors have voted to declare the Anti-Defamation League “generally unreliable” on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, adding it to a list of banned and partially banned sources.
An overwhelming majority of editors involved in the debate about the ADL also voted to deem the organization unreliable on the topic of antisemitism, its core focus. A formal declaration on that count is expected next.
The decision about Israel-related citations, made last week, means that one of the most prominent and longstanding Jewish advocacy groups in the United States — and one historically seen as the leading U.S. authority on antisemitism — is now grouped together with the National Inquirer, Newsmax, and Occupy Democrats as a source of propaganda or misinformation in the eyes of the online encyclopedia.
Moreover, in a near consensus, dozens of Wikipedia editors involved in the discussion said they believe the ADL should not be cited for factual information on antisemitism as well because it acts primarily as a pro-Israel organization and tends to label legitimate criticism of Israel as antisemitism.
The Supreme Court said Monday that it would not hear former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s appeal of his second-degree murder conviction in the May 2020 death of George Floyd.
Chauvin was found guilty by a state court in April 2021 and sentenced to 22 1/2 years in prison in connection with Floyd’s May 25, 2020, death, which triggered riots across the country and a prolonged debate on race relations in America.
Chauvin, 47, is also appealing his conviction and 21-year sentence on separate federal charges in connection with Floyd’s death. Those punishments were not considered by the high court.
