India’s Genetic Ancestry — Robert Sepehr

Besides being interesting in itself, this video also relates to the history of Buddhism. American Buddhists who are not from a traditionally Buddhist region may find it interesting that the ancient origins of most Europeans are Aryan, or Indo-European or Indo-Iranian. To me this is not a big deal emotionally and most of us came to learn Buddhism long before we knew of an ancient relationship like this. Nonetheless, it is valuable to recognize roots that reach deep into the past over a wide geographic area. ABN

Among Indo-European languages, Lithuanian is conservative in some aspects of its grammar and phonology, retaining archaic features otherwise found only in ancient languages such as Sanskrit[7] (particularly its early form, Vedic Sanskrit) or Ancient Greek. For this reason, it is an important source for the reconstruction of Proto-Indo-European despite its late attestation (with the earliest texts dating only to c. 1500).[4]

Nirvana

Nirvāṇa (/nɪərˈvɑːnə/ neer-VAH-nə/-ˈvænə/ -VAN-ə/nɜːr-/ nur-;[1] Sanskrit: निर्वाण nirvāṇa [nɪrʋaːɳɐ]PalinibbānaPrakritṇivvāṇa; literally, “blown out”, as in an oil lamp[2]) is a concept in Indian religions (BuddhismHinduismJainism, and Sikhism) that represents the ultimate state of soteriological release, the liberation from duḥkha, suffering, and saṃsāra, the cycle of birth and rebirth.[3][web 1][4]

In Indian religions, nirvana is synonymous with moksha and mukti.[note 1] All Indian religions assert it to be a state of perfect quietude, freedom, highest happiness as well as the liberation from attachment and worldly suffering and the ending of samsara, the round of existence.[6][7] However, non-Buddhist and Buddhist traditions describe these terms for liberation differently.[8] In Hindu philosophy, it is the union of or the realization of the identity of Atman with Brahman, depending on the Hindu tradition.[9][10][11] In Jainism, nirvana is also the soteriological goal, representing the release of a soul from karmic bondage and samsara.[12] In the Buddhist context, nirvana refers to the abandonment of the 10 fetters, marking the end of rebirth by stilling the fires that keep the process of rebirth going.[8][13][14]

What is that ancient path traveled by the Rightly Self-awakened Ones of former times?

And what is that ancient path, that ancient road, traveled by the Rightly Self-awakened Ones of former times? Just this noble eightfold path: right view, right aspiration, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, right concentration. That is the ancient path, the ancient road, traveled by the Rightly Self-awakened Ones of former times. I followed that path. Following it, I came to direct knowledge of aging & death, direct knowledge of the origination of aging & death, direct knowledge of the cessation of aging & death, direct knowledge of the path leading to the cessation of aging & death. I followed that path. Following it, I came to direct knowledge of birth… becoming… clinging… craving… feeling… contact… the six sense media… name-&-form… consciousness, direct knowledge of the origination of consciousness, direct knowledge of the cessation of consciousness, direct knowledge of the path leading to the cessation of consciousness. I followed that path.

— The Buddha, Nagara Sutta, Samyutta Nikaya ii.124, Translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu [104][105]

In this section, the Buddha references the antiquity of the Noble Eightfold Path ‘travelled by the Rightly Self-awakened Ones of former times’. Even in his day it was an ‘ancient road’. This is a bona fide historical statement indicating that core Buddhist practices, still practiced today, predate all of the world’s major religions. This is worth contemplating, reflecting on. The eighth stage of this ancient road can also be translated as samadhi. ABN

Another war for Israel escalates even more

Respect for those killed and injured, but consider the following:

Perhaps now is the time to ask the Jewish question again. Let’s put it this way: The Jews wrote a book that says God chose the Jews. Should we take their word for it? Should we take this book as the word of God, or as the word of the Jews? This book written by the Jews claims that God gave them a fertile land inhabited by another people. Should we believe it? This book written by the Jews claims that the Jews had a divine right to massacre Amalek. Should we believe it? If we believe it, or if we profess to believe it, or if we don’t denounce it as a lie, then what can we object to Netanyahu when he massacres the Gazans while telling Israelis: “You must remember what Amalek did to you, says our Holy Bible”?

We—USA and the West—are already sanctioning genocide in Gaza. We can stop. Christians and Jews who are not insane can stop this. We all know that if we do nothing, there will be regional war, war with Iran and possibly much worse. This does not have to happen. ABN

The Biblical Lens and the Nietzschean Light — Laurent Guyénot

On Christian guilt and responsibility

Christians worship two gods, Christ and Yahweh, but claim they are one. Certainly, the God of the Old Testament plays a secondary role in Christian consciousness. He remains behind the scenes. But he nevertheless pulls a number of strings. It was he who inspired the Christians to promise Palestine to the Jews in 1917 (by the British Balfour Declaration, preceded five months earlier by the French Cambon Declaration), and to give it to them in 1948.

There is a theory attributing geopolitical motives to the British: they needed Israel as a bridgehead in the Middle East, to control the Suez Canal. That’s Chomsky’s theory, and a blatant falsehood. From 1916, British foreign policy in the Middle East favored good relations with the Arab regimes they had set up in Arabia, Jordan and Iraq. The creation of a “Jewish home” in Palestine, leading predictably to the Jews’ full takeover, was deeply upsetting to the Arabs, and conflicted with British Arab policy. That is why in May 1939, the British Government tried to get out of its commitment to the Zionists with a White Paper providing for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within ten years. It stated:

His Majesty’s Government believe that the framers of the Mandate in which the Balfour Declaration was embodied could not have intended that Palestine should be converted into a Jewish State against the will of the Arab population of the country. … His Majesty’s Government therefore now declare unequivocally that it is not part of the their policy that Palestine should become a Jewish State. They would indeed regard it as contrary to their obligations to the Arabs under the Mandate, as well as to the assurances which have been given to the Arab people in the past, that the Arab population of Palestine should be made the subject of a Jewish State against their will.[1]

It is a fact that the Balfour Declaration and its inclusion in the British Mandate created an inextricable dilemma that would ultimately be fatal to British-Arab relationships. The British could find no way out but to withdraw in 1948, frustrated and humiliated. They waited a year before recognizing the Jewish state.

FLASHBACK 07/17/2009 — Moon landing tapes got erased, NASA admits

July 17, 200912:15 PM EDTUpdated 15 years ago

By Maggie Fox, Health and Science Editor

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The original recordings of the first humans landing on the moon 40 years ago were erased and re-used, but newly restored copies of the original broadcast look even better, NASA officials said on Thursday.

NASA released the first glimpses of a complete digital make-over of the original landing footage that clarifies the blurry and grainy images of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walking on the surface of the moon.

The full set of recordings, being cleaned up by Burbank, California-based Lowry Digital, will be released in September. The preview is available at www.nasa.gov.

NASA admitted in 2006 that no one could find the original video recordings of the July 20, 1969, landing.
