New study finds 1 in 3 Americans were infected with coronavirus by the end of 2020
While official numbers report nearly 20 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 last year, according to The COVID Tracking Project, researchers estimate that nearly one-third of the U.S. population, 31 percent or 103 million Americans, had COVID-19 at some point last year.
In the upper Midwest and Mississippi valley, including the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa, nearly two-thirds, 60 percent, of the population was estimated to have had COVID-19 in 2020. Meanwhile, nearly half the residents of Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and New York City (48 percent, 52 percent, 42 percent and 44 percent, respectively) were likely infected in 2020, according to the study published in the journal Nature.

New Study Concludes Xlear Kills and/or Deactivates SARS-CoV-2
EVANSTON, Ill.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–A new in vitro study done collaboratively by Utah State University and Northwestern University finds Xlear components (grapefruit seed extract and xylitol) significantly eliminates SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The imaging research study component was performed at the BioCryo facility of Northwestern University’s NUANCE Center.

Covid mandates don’t work
“Experience has shown that communities faced with epidemics or other adverse events respond best and with the least anxiety when the normal social functioning of the community is least disrupted. Strong political and public health leadership to provide reassurance and to ensure that needed medical care services are provided are critical elements. If either is seen to be less than optimal, a manageable epidemic could move toward catastrophe.”
COVID-19 Mandates Will Not Work for the Delta Variant
This is a long piece that can be summed up by the above quote. It’s worth looking at, and reading carefully if you are not familiar with the details of why lockdowns, etc. always fail and impose enormous other costs on societies. The author has a very strong case stated weakly. For example, he poses the limited question: “This is ‘panic porn’ driven by a craven inept media, and the corrupt public health officials who are using the Delta variant to drive further fear. We wonder if it is pure incompetence or unabashed unbridled bias and corruption?” It’s probably a lot worse than either of those options. Why pretend? ABN

Contrast the experience of schoolchildren in the Netherlands—no mask mandates or distancing for kids <12, ever—to the widespread US belief that we absolutely must mask kindergartners all day in school for their safety
You owe it to yourself to read the entire thing, I promise.
That is what European pediatricians, educators, and epidemiologists have near-unanimously advocated. (“Obviously preschoolers shouldn’t wear masks!”)
What is unfolding in the US, the reflexive, moralized outrage over young kids needing to wear masks is culture-bound hysteria.
It’s hard to deal with the whiplash of considering that in Europe, “the science” means a Dutch fifth grader has never needed to wear a mask.
But a 3 y/o in California, learning to speak and socialize, must keep hers on all day in daycare, provided she isn’t eating or sleeping.
How can we be so convinced in the moral and virological necessity of this one intervention… when there are clearly dozens of counterexamples disproving that assumption?
How can these two diverging realities exist in our age of connectivity? How is this dissonance sustainable?
Endless dichotomization in our political outrage economy has left us so, so broken. This is a canary in the coal mine for the dark future of this country, I’m afraid. It’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Remember, a significant portion of the population already got infected, and when the latest Delta wave is over in the South, the region will likely reach clear supermajorities of the population with immunity, as was found in India following the circulation of this very contagious strain of the virus.
