A judge in Texas has tossed out a Catholic nun’s $1 million defamation suit against the bishop who accused her of sexting with a priest, ruling that the court lacks jurisdiction in the dispute.
Mother Superior Teresa Agnes Gerlach and the Discalced Carmelite Nuns filed the suit against Fort Worth Bishop Michael Olson, who ejected her from the religious order after accusing her of breaking her vow of chastity with a priest.
In a ruling on Friday, Judge Don Cosby of Tarrant County’s 67th District Court said that the nuns’ suit was ‘dismissed for want of subject-matter jurisdiction’ after the bishop argued the bitter dispute was purely a religious matter.
Within hours of the ruling, the Arlington Police Department told DailyMail.com that it had also closed its criminal investigation into claims associated with the civil case, after finding no charges were merited.

The Vatican’s Dicastery of Bishops has completed a formal investigation of Bishop Joseph E. Strickland and the Diocese of Tyler, Texas, according to multiple media reports.
What prompted the inquiry, known as an apostolic visitation, remains unclear, but it marks a rare though not unprecedented intervention by Rome into a U.S. diocese and points to possible disciplinary action against Strickland, a widely popular though polarizing Texas firebrand viewed as a culture war champion by many U.S. conservatives for his staunch defense of the unborn, marriage, the traditional Latin liturgy, and Catholic orthodoxy.
The leader of the eastern Texas diocese since 2012, Strickland, 64, has faced criticism for what some see as intemperate social media posts unbecoming of a prominent U.S. prelate, including a May 12 tweet that suggested Pope Francis was “undermining the Deposit of Faith.”
Not one to sit on the sidelines, he recently played a prominent role in a eucharistic procession and prayer rally in Los Angeles on June 16 organized to protest Major League Baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers for honoring an anti-Catholic drag group at the team’s annual Pride Night game.
Though he was hailed for his leadership in some circles for joining the Dodgers protest, others saw the involvement of a bishop from another diocese as a breach of ecclesiastical protocol. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles, which condemned the Dodgers’ actions, emphasized in a statement that it had not given “backing or approval” for the rally.
Within these academic institutions, so-called experts in the field of transgender medicine would simply declare that puberty blockers and other interventions were the gold standard of care. The evidence to support this is completely fraudulent, but no dissent was permitted. Everyone within the medical community knew that if he questioned transgender ideology, he would suffer the same type of repercussions that had happened during Covid.
But in reality, when you “affirm” these individuals’ gender identity, what you are doing is affirming their hatred for themselves. You have these children who are going through confusing times, difficult times; when you affirm this belief system, what you’re really doing is telling them: “You hate yourself at this moment, and I will affirm that.” We have to ask ourselves, why do these people have such high rates of suicide? Because we’re affirming that they should hate themselves and that they should try to destroy themselves.
One of the things I’ve been thinking about is what puberty blockers do to children. This medication is called a “gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist” and it comes in the form of monthly injections or an implant. And because it simulates the activity of this hormone, it shuts down the activity of the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is this almond-sized structure in your brain, it’s one of the most primal structures we have, and it controls all the other hormonal structures in your body—your sexual development, your emotions, your fight-or-flight response, everything… To shut down that system is to shut down what makes us human.
‘My daughter was murdered by a gender ideology,’ she said at the hearing. ‘CPS took my daughter when she was 16 years old. It was helped by her public school counselor and LGBTQ group and another trans-identified girl.
‘My daughter was taken from her loving home because the state of California claims I was abusive for not affirming her trans identity. I lost my daughter over a name and pronouns.’
She went on to say that her daughter had ‘mental health issues’ and was ‘not a boy trapped in a girl’s body.’
‘Why are there so many transgender in foster care? Because this state take them from their families, tell them to run, then steals them. Parents are given one option to treat their distressed child: Affirm drugs and remove their healthy body part or else lose your child,’ she told the Judiciary Senate.
‘The abuse claim against me was finally dropped, but it was too late. The damage was done. By then, my daughter was in horrible mental and physical pain. My daughter knelt down in front of a train. She was murdered by gender ideology.’
I cannot think of any way a Buddhist can countenance what was done to Yaeli by adults. Encouraging and then enforcing a delusional ‘identity’ is the opposite of everything Buddhism stands for. To do that to a child is as bad as it gets. Buddhism is largely a gentle teaching but it is very firm on the ethics of not encouraging delusion in anyone and especially in children. To my knowledge, there is no other religion that is more squarely against what happened to Yaeli than Buddhism. Enticing, encouraging a child in their delusions and then taking her from her home and mother—this is the opposite of all Buddhist teaching. There is no way Buddhists can condone this or not speak against it. This is deeply wrong. I hope more Buddhists will join me in speaking very strongly against these laws and this kind of behavior. It is the adults who are to blame for this. ABN

Admire and reward honest apologies, especially if there is a vow to make amends for the mistake and to not repeat it. In Buddhism, recognizing our own mistakes and apologizing and making amends for them is fundamental to spiritual growth.
