“Residents in Shanghai screaming from high rise apartments after 7 straight days of the city lockdown”

Residents in #Shanghai screaming from high rise apartments after 7 straight days of the city lockdown. The narrator worries that there will be major problems. (in Shanghainese dialect—he predicts people can’t hold out much longer—he implies tragedy).

2) “yao ming le” & “yao si” — both expressions meaning “life and death” but they also more literally means “asking for death”. Narrator eventually implies shit is gonna hit the fan soon if this continues.

[The lockdowns are real, the cries are real. But overall, I suspect this is CCP “performance art” similar to what we saw coming from Wuhan in early 2020. It is a kind of “naturally occurring” propaganda designed to frighten and influence the West in the way the Wuhan videos of violent lockdowns and people collapsing in the street did two years ago. China surely knows that zero covid is not possible, Even if the whole world locked down for two months, covid would not be eradicated. Other reasons for them to be doing this are it affords China a plausible excuse to further disrupt Western supply lines while also providing a kind of lurid “proof” that the CCP did not deliberately release the original Wuhan variant that poisoned the world. Moreover, it never hurts to discipline your own people and send a message to the Shanghai faction of the CCP. ABN]

“How a chaos maximization strategy serves US interests”

I wrote this a few years ago but people still aren't aware of how a chaos maximization strategy serves US interests. People like to compare US hegemony to late imperial Rome but aren't cognizant of the fact that once Rome no longer had the strength to enforce the Roman peace or

Roman law, that didn’t mean it no longer had the strength to create Roman disorder. The strategic policy of the Eastern Roman empire along frontiers it could no longer govern was to make them ungovernable so no one could. Once the US can longer be the city on a golden hill,

it will not fade quietly but instead seek to be king of the dung heap. What this means in practice is taking advantage of it’s relatively secure and isolated geostrategic position and creating bush fires across the rest of the world for others so that it itself is viewed as an oasis

of stability and security in comparison so that financial flows can be redirected to itself from the rest of the world. Once you move from a win-win game to a lose-lose game, the strategy becomes to make sure that others lose more in relative terms than yourself. It is why the US

is undermining the international system it publicly espouses to uphold and why it's immediate satrapies are being put to the torch first. There are of course ways to strike back at the US strategy here, but none of them are particularly pleasant and beyond the mental blocks of

people who cling to Liberalism or even just basic decency.

“Evidence currently points to a Ukrainian strike because…”

[Most likely conclusion is “technical malfunction” of Ukrainian strike. Less likely, deliberate Ukrainian false flag. The analysis below is worth reading. ABN]

#KRAMATORSK – A lot of debate about responsibility for the tragedy. My earlier Tweet was published after referring to several sources – Russian, Ukrainian and US – and based on the best possible information available. That evidence currently points to a Ukrainian strike because…

1. The trajectory of the missile. A missile’s tail falls before the head, therefore it is possible to project the trajectory of the missile, which I illustrate below. The rocket approached #Kramatorsk from slightly south of west. That area is under full control of the UAF.

“The Withdrawal from Kiev Is Russian Escalation. It’s the…Transformation from a Psychological Operation to a Textbook War”: Interview with Marko Marjanović

I don’t know what de-militarization or de-Nazification mean. I don’t know that Russia knows what they mean. I think these alleged demands are aired to give voice to Russian wrath. They are not practical demands for Ukraine to meet. They are slogans meant to ensure the war continues.

I see no evidence as of yet that Russia has given up on any war goals it entered into the war with. People do not understand that the withdrawal from Kiev is Russian escalation. It’s the final step in the transformation from waging a dreamy psychological operation to waging textbook war. So far when Russia has hit a wall in Ukraine it has always escalated to the next order of business. I don’t mean just in this war but looking at it holistically since 2014.

If the war stalls again Moscow will be at another crossroads. Whether to wind down the fighting or escalate again by placing the homefront on a war footing and issuing a call to arms.

I don’t know which of the two Putin would or will pick. I don’t know why he has been reluctant to mobilize the Russian society for the war so far. But I do think that if he does so the nature of his regime will have to change.
