Twitter founder Jack Dorsey has admitted that the social media company’s many failures were his fault – before immediately blaming one of the tech firm’s activist investors.
In a blog post published Tuesday, Dorsey owned up to allowing the company to stray from preserving free of speech, but added that he only allowed that to happen when he ‘no longer had hope’ maintaining it after an unnamed investment group bought up stock in the company in 2020.
Dorsey did not specify which company that was, but he was likely pointing to the Elliot Management, which that year bought a majority share in Twitter for $387million under the direction of managing partner Jesse Cohn, who then set about trying to oust Dorsey.
The former Twitter CEO’s comments come as the new chief twit Elon Musk started releasing internal Twitter files from before his take over, which showed that the company actively tried to suppress the tweets of many conservative account-holders.

I have been unable to find Dorsey’s blog. In the linked article, Dorsey makes it clear that he lost control of Twitter to a wealthy investor. According to this article, Dorsey wanted to established 3 rules for Twitter, which he believes should apply to all social media companies:
He said that the first rule for social media companies ought to be ‘resilience to corporate and government control,’ as well as only allowing the ‘original author to remove content they produce,’ and finally relying on ‘algorithmic choice’ to implement moderation online.
1. On the morning of January 8, President Donald Trump, with one remaining strike before being at risk of permanent suspension from Twitter, tweets twice.
2. 6:46 am: “The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”
3. 7:44 am: “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”
So far so good. Yet still, I greatly fear this statement because it is so wrong: “New Twitter policy is freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach.” -Elon Musk 11-18-22. That said, I accept that this is an evolving situation and hope for the best. ABN
THE REMOVAL OF DONALD TRUMP Part One: October 2020-January 6th
2. The world knows much of the story of what happened between riots at the Capitol on January 6th, and the removal of President Donald Trump from Twitter on January 8th…
3. We’ll show you what hasn’t been revealed: the erosion of standards within the company in months before J6, decisions by high-ranking executives to violate their own policies, and more, against the backdrop of ongoing, documented interaction with federal agencies.
4. This first installment covers the period before the election through January 6th. Tomorrow, @ShellenbergerMD will detail the chaos inside Twitter on January 7th. On Sunday, @bariweiss will reveal the secret internal communications from the key date of January 8th.
5. Whatever your opinion on the decision to remove Trump that day, the internal communications at Twitter between January 6th-January 8th have clear historical import. Even Twitter’s employees understood in the moment it was a landmark moment in the annals of speech.
6. As soon as they finished banning Trump, Twitter execs started processing new power. They prepared to ban future presidents and White Houses – perhaps even Joe Biden. The “new administration,” says one exec, “will not be suspended by Twitter unless absolutely necessary.”
Here are my views about the recent revelations. First of all I’m glad this information is now available to the public and I’m angry because of what was done to censor and control public discourse about important issues like corruption and Govt crimes.
Twitter has become a spy agency and a censorship tool for the deep state in collusion with the Democratic Party. The same is happening at every big tech company today. They limit political speech as well as leaks about crimes and corruption by the Government and politicians.
The Democratic Party has surrendered to the power of the deep state, a group of spy chiefs and corporate elites in the war and security business and their vast network of protected billionaire associates who control the media and big tech. Dems chose this path to remain in power.
Monopolistic big tech companies have surrendered to the deep state and partnered with the Democratic Party to keep their monopolies going. When was the last time any of them was broken up because they accumulated too much power? Tech billionaires love a seat at the power table.
This silencing and manipulation has completely destroyed democracy. Not just opinions are being manipulated but the devices that count our votes. The deep state can turn every cell phone into an open mic and backdoor any PC. What do you think they can do to voting machines?
This is the biggest criminal conspiracy in history. Spy agencies are now running the show. Their budgets and powers are increasing every year. They spy on all of us and have dirt on everyone. Politicians who don’t work with them have no future. They are removed by scandal, etc.
To put it in brutally honest terms, The United States Dept of Homeland Security is the operating system running in the background of Twitter.
You can debate whether Elon Musk honestly didn’t know all this before purchasing Twitter from his good friend Jack Dorsey, and/or what the scenario of owner/operator motive actually is. Decide for yourself.
For me, I feel confident that all of the conflicting and odd datapoints only reconcile in one direction. DHS, via CISA, controls Twitter.
Wittingly or unwittingly (you decide) Elon Musk is now the face of that govt controlled enterprise.
If you concur with my researched assessment, then what you see being released by Elon Musk in the Twitter Files is actually a filtered outcome as a result of this new ownership dynamic. And with that intelligence framework solidly in mind, I warn readers not to take a position on the motive of the new ownership.
Put simply, DHS stakeholders, to include the DOJ, FBI and Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), are mitigating public exposure of their domestic surveillance activity by controlling and feeding selected information about their prior Twitter operations.
If TikTok is a national security threat, then TikTok is to Beijing as Twitter is to Washington DC.
The larger objective of U.S. involvement in social media has always been monitoring and surveillance of the public conversation, and then ultimately controlling and influencing public opinion.
Elon, this is what happens when you limit reach. Also, there is no reason to limit reach because Twitter users will sift wheat from chaff better than any administrator or any algorithm. Limiting reach is just another word for censorship. ABN
1. A new #TwitterFiles investigation reveals that teams of Twitter employees build blacklists, prevent disfavored tweets from trending, and actively limit the visibility of entire accounts or even trending topics—all in secret, without informing users.
2. Twitter once had a mission “to give everyone the power to create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers.” Along the way, barriers nevertheless were erected.
3. Take, for example, Stanford’s Dr. Jay Bhattacharya (@DrJBhattacharya) who argued that Covid lockdowns would harm children. Twitter secretly placed him on a “Trends Blacklist,” which prevented his tweets from trending.
On Friday, the first installment of the Twitter files was published here. We expected to publish more over the weekend. Many wondered why there was a delay.
We can now tell you part of the reason why. On Tuesday, Twitter Deputy General Counsel (and former FBI General Counsel) Jim Baker was fired. Among the reasons? Vetting the first batch of “Twitter Files” – without knowledge of new management.
The process for producing the “Twitter Files” involved delivery to two journalists (Bari Weiss and me) via a lawyer close to new management. However, after the initial batch, things became complicated.
Over the weekend, while we both dealt with obstacles to new searches, it was @bariweiss who discovered that the person in charge of releasing the files was someone named Jim. When she called to ask “Jim’s” last name, the answer came back: “Jim Baker.”
“My jaw hit the floor,” says Weiss.
The first batch of files both reporters received was marked, “Spectra Baker Emails.”
Internal Twitter emails uncovered appear to indicate that another top Democratic candidate’s campaign colluded with staffers on the platform to block accounts that contained so-called election misinformation.
According to reports, the internal Twitter emails reveal that Arizona Democratic Gov.-elect and current Secretary of State Katie Hobbs allegedly teamed up with former Twitter staffers and executives to flag certain users and accounts. The bombshell revelation comes on the heels of Twitter boss Elon Musk, via journalist Matt Taibbi last week, revealed internal company communications showing the platform worked with the Democratic Party to censor conservatives.
