  • In Shanghai, China’s most populous city and financial hub, protests broke out on Saturday night at the city’s Wulumuqi Road
  • ‘Lift lockdown for Urumqi, lift lockdown for Xinjiang, lift lockdown for all of China!’ the crowds in Shanghai shouted, according to a video on social media 
  • At one point a large group began shouting, ‘Down with the Chinese Communist Party, down with Xi Jinping, free Urumqi!’, according to witnesses and videos in a rare public protest against the Chinese leadership
  • A large group of police looked on and sometimes tried to break up the crowd
  • China is battling a surge in infections that prompted lockdowns and restrictions in cities across the country 
  • Beijing is attempting stick to a zero-COVID policy even as much of the world tries to coexist with the virus 
  • Public fury forced authorities in Xinjiang to open up parts of the capital Urumqi which has been subject to a punishing ‘zero-Covid’ lockdown for over 3 months
  • The protests were  triggered in-part by deaths of at least ten people in a fire at an apartment block who were unable to escape because their doors had been locked due to the virus

There Is No Freedom of Speech Without Freedom of Reach

Every now and then someone new comes around and claims to support free speech. I do my best to give you my analysis of the situation objectively. This is often difficult to do in my position as the CEO of Gab because so many people dismiss my insight as “envy” or “fear” when in reality I’m just doing what I always do and calling it how I see it. I don’t say this to be braggadocios, but as a matter of fact I am the foremost expert in the world when it comes to free speech online and so my opinion on these matters holds weight.

I’ve spent six years building the only platform on the internet that upholds First Amendment-protected political speech as the baseline for what is allowed to be posted. I’ve paid the price for this policy, getting banned from App Stores, banks, payment processors, hosting providers, and dozens of other services. No other platform can make this claim, certainly not Musk’s Twitter. 

If you’ll remember I was correct about Parler and their use of AI to censor, I was correct about Rumble and their “hate speech” terms of service, and I was correct about Gettr using AI to censor as well. All of them claim to support free speech and all of them bent the knee to the Regime powers and censor “hate speech.” Twitter under Elon Musk is no different and my analysis about this situation will be right as well. Believe me now or thank me later. Take it or leave it.

The example of how much better uncurated science has done during the pandemic than the curated kind proves that free speech does not lead to mayhem or even hurt feelings. It leads to better information. If real science had not been censored by government, social media, Twitter, and MSM, we would probably not even remember covid today. Real uncurated science found effective early treatments for covid within one year, thus precluding any need for a vaccine. Real uncurated science also identified the danger of Remdesivir, ventilators, and the experimental vaccines. The correct algorithm to use on Twitter is Twitter users being allowed to view what they want to. ABN

It is inspiring to see this. But this is a rare occurrence, both for his speaking out and for his being freed by the crowd. Authorities will surely turn his QR code red or worse. Across the world we are seeing authorities using covid emergency powers to trample their citizens. This shows the deep dark side of political power and how ready even apparently sane leaders are to use it. If all of us would stand up like the crowd in this video, emergency powers abuses would stop immediately. ABN

  • Three days after speaking with Biden, on February 14, Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act to clear out the protesters

How subscription blue checks can ensure free speech on Twitter

JUST FACTS: It's estimated there are around 400,000 blue☑️'s on Twitter. At $8 a month, that's $3.2 million a month(if they pay). NOW, there are about 240 million users on Twitter, how many become verified? It's simple business analytics. @elonmusk

If only 10 million decide to become verified, that's an $80 million a month revenue increase not including other income streams.

Let's say 40 million step up and become verified over time…that's $320 million in revenue a month or $3.8 billion annually.

But most importantly, let’s leave out the dollars and cents. It’s about freedom. Talk all you want about civilization, but this is what it is about, FREEDOM, and I thank you for that. @elonmusk

This weekend, I will be appearing with Prof. John Ioannidis at a conference on academic freedom at Stanford. The conference organizers invited professors who disagreed with us to participate in the session, but they declined.

Some of those pro-lockdown professors have complained that there are people at Stanford talking to each other at Stanford with whom they disagree. At least one pro-lockdown reporter took to Twitter to create some sort of scandal around this fact.

The conference will be publicly live-streamed. I am at a loss to understand why there are reporters and Stanford professors who object to free speech on campus on issues of public concern. Everyone is free to disagree.

Nonetheless, Elon has made some good moves. That said Western IC has to be all over his ass. Can anyone not approved by cabal do anything in USA? Probably not. Trust good information over people but people are always major factors. Musk will change Twitter. New technology is always going to happen and can’t be stopped. Big places to share uncensored information is probably all we will have. I can support and enjoy Musk and hope for the best while keeping in mind the forces around him and all of us. ABN

Is it not a foul disgrace that someone as skilled and selfless as The Ethical Skeptic must use the symbol “\/” for covid vaccines? Three years of covid have shown us beyond a shadow of a doubt that “uncurated” information from “fringe” researchers has consistently been vastly better than the curated information served up by Big Tech, MSM, and the US government. But TES posts on Twitter, someone might say. Yes, he does and he is a rare exception that proves the rule and even he has had to use the symbol \/. He got around Twitter bans by using arcane vocabularies, \/, and by writing in an abstruse manner, which sadly kept his work hidden from many people it could have helped. Big Tech, MSN, the CDC, NIH, FDA, NIAID, and more have been horrible with covid information, which though they stated it clearly enough has been all but universally wrong. So wrong it has led to the worst manmade health disaster in world history. ABN

“We” are being manipulated into the vision of Elon being the free speech shield-bearer – but what has Musk revealed recently as to his true motivations for wanting Twitter.

Musk’s vision for Twitter is “one stop shopping.” E-commerce. He intends to bring social media, banking, auto loans, Amazon type buying, insurance, paying loans and utility bills, medical insurance, service estimates, you name it- under the umbrella of Twitter. Everything you do, buy, need – could be bought on the Twitter website. This is about power and money.

Why does he care about bot accounts? Because what he is buying is access to you, to me, to each and everyone of us on Twitter now or on Twitter in the future. He wants to know the exact number of warm bodies to sell to his investors. Remember – with the purchase of Twitter, he will have a client base maybe in the billions – before he even launches a single product! That client base includes some of the most influential, wealthy and educated people on the planet.

So, why is this such a bad thing?

Let’s go back to free speech.
