LONDON (Reuters) -Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday that Moscow’s military “tasks” in Ukraine now went beyond the eastern Donbas region, in the clearest acknowledgment yet that it has expanded its war goals.
In an interview with state media nearly five months after Russia’s invasion, the foreign minister also said peace talks made no sense at the moment because Western governments were leaning on Ukraine to fight rather than negotiate.

Well-worth watching. I believe Mearsheimer is largely right about Ukraine and the US role in the war. I also believe he is leaving out a very dark side of US, and indeed all, realist politics. ABN

geography, heavy use of artillery, especially rocket artillery (very supply intensive), limited number of military trucks, and relatively sparse road system the army depends on the railways. From their Imperial Tsarist beginnings, through the Soviet era & up until today, the
Railway Troops have undergone many changes & been part of various ministries. Their modern iteration begins in 1995 when they are established as an independent Federal Service & strengthened. By 1999 they include 4 railway corps, with 28 railway brigades (+ other elements).

Very few, both in the east and west, are aware of how this actually has long been in the making: the Russia-Iran-India agreement for implementing a shorter and cheaper Eurasian trade route via the Caspian Sea (compared to the Suez Canal), was first signed in 2000, in the pre-9/11 era.
The INSTC in full operational mode signals a powerful hallmark of Eurasian integration – alongside the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and last but not least, what I described as “Pipelineistan” two decades ago.

The cost is minimal and the methods are almost undetectable. Once achieved, the goal can be proclaimed a victory by those who gained it.
While the goal is being pursued, operatives will discover ways to extract resources from the host society, thus paying their own way without funding from abroad.
Time to talk about tactics, and specifically about how the Russians have adapted theirs to present the Ukrainian military with an unsolvable tactical dilemma rather than any kind of a fair fight.
This is what smart militaries do.
Massed force only goes so far in war. Used ineptly the only thing it produces is a lot of casualties.
Competent commanders refine their tactics to ensure victory. Ideally you want to present the enemy with not just a solvable problem but an unsolvable dilemma.

Notable because it’s a joint statement. Also notable is it’s from two agencies I do not trust about a third I do not trust either. I do not believe any of us below the very top know what is really going on. Recall that covid is almost certainly either a US bioweapon, a Chinese bioweapon or one concocted by both and release deliberately or not. That is one wobbling foundation upon which to divine the planetary drama playing out today. Covid allowed China to hide its defeat in its trade war with Trump. It also provided cover for our domestic cabal to steal the presidential election. Every factor you can think of cuts two, three, four ways minimum. That said, Chinese spying is ferocious and very widespread. What’s weird about that is they are spying on Western institutions that have already been infiltrated and taken over by someone else. Who wants world domination most? Even if you don’t want it, who wants to be dominated? No question, we have before us one of the greatest illustrations of the First Noble Truth ever manifested in the human realm. ABN
